Why Dual Motors?
Erm...because it is crazy fun! The Mammoth is the ultimate 500W + 500W electric bicycle. Anyone who has ever driven in a Canadian winter knows FWD can be better and AWD is the best. When going into soft terrain like snow, sand, or mud or over obstacles like curbs, stairs, or logs, centralized weight with equalized power where BOTH wheels deliver torque, is just plain better.
THE WHOLE VS. THE SUM
The amazing thing about dual-motor drive is the efficiency of its power. The adage rings true “The whole is stronger than the sum of its parts.” The dual motors deliver acceleration more quickly without using as much battery power due to the equalized power delivery. Just switch off the front hub motor once you are up to speed and you will actually save battery power compared to a single-engine e-bike at full acceleration.
How much is 500W of power?
500W is the optimum power for all-season riding. For reference, a tour de France cyclist produces 350W per hour on average on race day!
But, the aerobic pedaling power of a casual cyclist is between 50W to 150W per hour… so 500W is like a 5-person pedaling team, on the Mammoth… that is 5 people PER WHEEL
